Ukraine will sue the Polish carriers blocking the border

Sown winter wheat is enough to grow 2.5-3 times more than the domestic need, so there will be no threats to food security for Ukraine in 2024. This was stated by First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi.

"The sowing campaign of winter crops has actually been completed. It consists of two large main blocks. Previously, the sowing of oilseed rape was completed, and now the sowing of winter cereals has been completed. The largest areas are under wheat and winter barley," said the deputy minister.

According to his information, farmers planted more than 4 million hectares under wheat, which corresponds to the level of the previous year. An average yield of 18-20 million tons can be obtained from such an area. At the same time, the domestic consumption of wheat is 6.5 million tons per year.

So, as of November 20, 4.02 million hectares were sown with winter wheat (this is 92% of the projected area). The largest amount of wheat was sown in Dnipro region (473 thousand ha), Odesa region (362 thousand ha) and Kirovohrad region (324 thousand ha). At the same time, only 67% of the projected area was sown in Odesa.

By the way, 4.45 million tons of winter wheat were sown in Ukraine last year. 22.28 million tons were harvested this year.

As of the reporting date, 505,000 hectares, or 73% of the forecast, were sown with barley.
