Rapeseed is already blooming in Lviv and Zakarpattia regions

In Romania, Bulgaria and Poland, due to an abnormally warm spring, the flowering of rape began 2-3 weeks earlier. Local farmers said that the development of plants was significantly affected by the lack of moisture in autumn.

This is stated in the special project "Rapeseed is beginning to bloom in Ukraine." How this will affect the future crop and how the 2024 planting is going in light of the abnormal April "heat" at Latifundist.com.

In Ukraine, rapeseed is already blooming in the Lviv and Zakarpattia regions.

"Faster flowering will lead to faster ripening of the crop. If the lateral branches are not formed, it will be impossible to achieve the maximum yield. In addition, there is still the danger of frost returning, which can lead to the abortion of the flower and not obtaining the desired harvest. Depending on the weather conditions and the growth phase at that moment, the consequences can be different," said Oleh Zapletniuk, CEO of TAS Agro.

Oleksandr Ovsyanyk, director of the agro-industrial department of the AGROTRADE Group, noted that the flowering of winter rapeseed at this time in Ukraine is a new story for us. Even, for example, it is too early for southern Odesa. If early flowering and high temperature were accompanied by precipitation, this would definitely be a plus, which would speed up harvesting.

"But currently we have an absolute lack of precipitation, high temperatures and intensive plant development. And this can cause dropping of flowers and pods, which will have a negative effect on the yield," Oleksandr Ovsyanyk explained.
