70% of Ukrainian farmers will increase soybean crops, survey

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine conducted a survey on the plans of agricultural producers for the 2024 sowing campaign. The results indicate a change in the priorities of farmers. The press service of the agency informs about this.

According to the information, it is planned to increase the area for:

soybeans — 70% of respondents plan to increase the area under soybeans by 21% in total;

grain and leguminous crops — an 11% increase is expected;

weed with barley — an increase of 7%, due to the expansion of the possibilities of sea shipments;

spring wheat — moderate growth by 2%;

grow rapeseed - 24% of respondents plan to grow it; in general, the area under rapeseed in Ukraine will increase by 24%.

The reduction of areas is predicted under:

corn — a 9% decrease is expected;

sunflower — a potential reduction, but farmers have not yet made a final decision.

In general, in 2024, the sown area under hot crops may decrease by 0.5 million ha (3.7%) compared to 2023.

"The change in the market situation is due to the increase in the prices of soybeans, sugar beets and spring barley. Expanding export opportunities for barley and rapeseed. As well as instability in the sunflower market," the report says.
