In the Donetsk region, despite the shift of the front line, farmers plan to sow 214 thousand hectares of spring crops.

Olena Rybakova, Deputy Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Complex and Land Resources of the Donetsk Oblast, stated this at the briefing, Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"This year, farmers in Donetsk region plan to sow 214,000 hectares with hot crops. And if you count together with the winter crops that were sown at the end of last year, then this area is 337 thousand hectares... And despite the shift of the front line, we know... But this zone just beyond Avdiivka, the Ocheretyn community was not included in our projected area. Because, considering the situation, they did not start sowing there. That is, the figure of 337,000 hectares has not decreased in the region so far," said Rybakova.

According to her, today spring crops were sown in Donetsk region on an area of 80,000 hectares, which is almost 74% of what was planned.

"That is, the sowing of grain crops is almost finished. But the sowing of corn for grain is still going on, and the sunflower is just beginning," Rybakova stated.

She reminded that in 2021, the cultivated area in the Donetsk region was 1.4 million hectares, and now it is 337 thousand hectares.

According to the official, fields in the region continue to suffer from shelling.

"Certainly, crop fields continue to suffer. But if we do not take the territory on the contact line, then those shellings that affect the rear communities, then the rescuers of the State Emergency Service react quite quickly to it... The rescuers go out, inspect, fix the place where it is better not to enter. That is, the tractor simply drives around there, or they remove the remains of these shells and cover the pits and continue processing," she explained.

As reported, according to the latest calculations (as of the end of February 2024), the Ukrainian agricultural sector suffered more than $80 billion in direct damages and losses as a result of a full-scale invasion.
