Bulgarian farmers block border crossings through Ukrainian grain

Yesterday, March 29, the Bulgarian National Association of Grain Producers started a three-day protest action with the demand not to extend to Bulgaria the effect of the European regulation on the duty-free import of goods of agricultural origin from Ukraine. This is reported by "European Truth".

Bulgarian farmers plan to block traffic at four border crossings in Vidin, Ruse, Silistra and Kardam, claiming losses due to imports of grain and oil crops from Ukraine.

The head of the association, Kostadyn Kostadinov, explained that there is no market for Bulgarian grain, and there are two months left before the harvest. The new harvest will not be stored anywhere, and the situation is unlikely to improve if Ukrainian imports of agricultural goods into the country continue.

Grain farmers also expect support from the Minister of Agriculture.

"He should come to the protest. We expect that our government will support us not to extend this decree, because the Bulgarian farmer has suffered enough," said Kostadyn Kostadinov.

Every day until March 31, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., farmers will block four border crossings along the northern border with heavy equipment. If there is no result after their three-day protest, they are ready to continue.

"On the seventh (April 7. — ed.) Romanian colleagues will block the port of Constanta, the road to the border, and we will be separate. Then, perhaps, we will take joint actions," added Kostadyn Kostadinov.

It will be recalled that in mid-March grain producers from Bulgaria announced the beginning of an indefinite protest in connection with the duty-free import of grain from Ukraine to the EU.
